Foxy Knoxy Case

We profiled Amanda Knox back in January. The Italian media now can’t get enough of Knox Foxy. Knoxe has 11 Facebook accounts about her story, 7 in favor of her innocence, 4 against. In fact, Italian media called Knox “person of the year” ahead of Carla Bruni.

Their trial started January 16. But their “media trial” has been all year long in Italian press with headlines reportedly that include:

• “Sex, lies and stabbings”
• “Lovers without any inhibitions”
• “And in prison, she even tries to sun tan”

86 media outlets are covering the story. As CNN correctly says, Italians love their murder cases.

The Amanda Knox Blog defending her matter reads as follows:

“Hello and welcome to the website of the Amanda Knox Defense Fund. We are the friends and supporters of Amanda Knox. This special place was created to share who the “real” Amanda Knox is and allow you to help support her. Within this site you will find heartfelt stories from friends, family, teachers and others who are the true friends of Amanda Knox. People who know what kind of a lovely person she truly is and who know she is innocent. “

Hall of Famer George Kell dies at 86

George Kell, the Hall of Fame third baseman who edged Ted Williams for the 1949 American League batting title and became a Detroit Tigers broadcaster for nearly 40 years, died Tuesday. He was 86.

Jackson's Funeral Home in Newport confirmed the death but did not give a cause. The Hall of Fame said he died in his sleep at his home in Swifton. Kell was severely injured in a car crash in 2004 but was able to walk with a cane about six months later.

Kell outlasted Williams for the 1949 batting crown, hitting .34291 while the Boston Red Sox great finished at .34276. Kell played 15 seasons in the AL, hitting more than .300 nine times and compiling a career average of .306. He was a 10-time All-Star.

"There's no one who loved and respected the game more than George," Hall of Fame president Jeff Idelson said. "Not only was he one of baseball's true legends, but he was a fan, too. He loved coming to Cooperstown and sharing in the camaraderie with his Hall of Fame family."

Kell played from 1943-1957 with the Philadelphia Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and Baltimore Orioles. He batted over .300 each year from 1946-53.

David Letterman Marries Regina Lasko

David Letterman said he and longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko had a bumpy trip to matrimony last week. During a taping Monday of CBS' "Late Show," Letterman said he and Lasko married March 19 at the Teton County Courthouse in Choteau, Mont., but only after their truck got stuck on a muddy road.

Letterman and Lasko, whose son, Harry, was born in November 2003, didn't take an immediate honeymoon. The late-night host was back at work in New York on Monday to deliver the news _ and a few jokes about the marriage.

"Regina and I began dating in February of 1986, and I said, `Well, things are going pretty good, let's just see what happens in about 10 years,'" Letterman, who turns 62 next month, said at the taping, according to a transcript.

After avoiding marriage for more than two decades, Letterman said, "I secretly felt that men who were married admired me ... like I was the last of the real gunslingers, you know what I'm saying?"

The road to the ceremony wasn't smooth, he told the audience. He, Lasko and their son were on their way to the courthouse Thursday when their pickup truck got stuck in the mud.

"So now we think, `Well, somebody'll come.' No, nobody comes along. Nobody comes along _ it's Thursday afternoon; who's coming along? Zorro? No, nobody. So I get out of the truck and I walk 2 miles back to the house into a 50-mile-an-hour wind," Letterman said.

"It's not Beverly Hills, it's Montana, for God's sakes. And the whole way, I'm thinking, 'See, smart ass, see, see, you try to get married, this is what happens,'" he said.

When he returned, Letterman said, Harry asked if they were still going to town and was assured they were.

"And he gets very upset because mom had told him if I wasn't back in an hour, the deal was off," Letterman said.

Colts fan's take on Nate Davis and his Pro Day

Everyone seems to be talking about how only one team showed up to Nate Davis' Pro Day. That team who did show up was the Indianapolis Colts, and contrary to what some think, they didn't show up just because Davis just happened to be holding his Pro Day in the glorious state of Indiana. The Colts do not just send their scouts "out there" just to look at local prospects because they happen to be close by. They only send their scouts to look at people they've targeted, and if they sent their people to watch Nate Davis throw passes to Steve DeBerg, it is because they intend to draft Davis.

People forget that Colts President Bill Polian scouted Nate Davis personally in November of last year.

Polian told the ESPN2 crew covering Ball State’s game he couldn’t comment too much on Ball State QB Nate Davis, 21, due to NFL regulations, but added that he liked what he saw from the Ohio native.

If teams are not interested in Davis, but the best talent evaluator in the NFL not only scouts him personally, but also sends one of his people to attend his Pro Day, that should tell you something. I'm no Ball State "RAH-RAH!" kind of guy. All I know is every scouting report I've read on the guy tells me he has what it takes to start in this league. And while Peyton Manning is God, Peyton is not going to play football forever.

So, if 31 other teams want to pass on Nate Davis, well then I guess it sucks to be them. I'd have no problem watching Indy snatch this guy up and groom him into a big league quarterback.

NCAA Hockey Field Set

After an exciting weekend of conference tournament hockey, the work belonged to the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee. The panel had to figure out how to set the field of 16 for the NCAAs.

Though the Pairwise rankings do correctly mimic the process used to select to select the tournament, there was much decision-making to be made. Four number-one regional seeds had to be placed in regionals, but the committee also had to account for the integrity of an overall 16-team bracket. With the committee's work done, the Road to the Frozen Four can officially begin.

As expected, Boston University is the overall number-one seed. The Terriers won the Hockey East regular season and tournament championships, and also plowed through a non-conference schedule that included convincing wins over North Dakota, Michigan, and Denver. The Terriers are led by Hobey Baker finalist Colin Wilson (NHL rights: Nashville), along with an experienced group of upperclassmen like Brandon Yip (Colorado) and Jason Lawrence (undrafted).

BU was placed in the Northeast Regional, hosted by New Hampshire. The Wildcats are seeded third, playing second-seed North Dakota in the first round. Boston University draws Ohio State out of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association for their opening-round game.

Notre Dame, the regular season and tournament champion in the CCHA, got the second overall seed. The Irish had a 20-game unbeaten streak through the middle of the season, and they will play in the Midwest Regional at Grand Rapids, Mich. Notre Dame draws College Hockey America champion Bemidji (Minn.) State for their opening-round game. The other game in that bracket pits Northeastern against Cornell.

The third overall seed is Denver. The Pioneers finished second in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, then were runner-up to Minnesota-Duluth in the WCHA playoffs. Denver draws Miami (Ohio) in the opening round of the West Regional in Minneapolis. UMD is seeded second in the regional, and they will play Princeton.

The last number-one seed goes to Michigan, the CCHA runners-up. Michigan will head east to Bridgeport, Conn., where they play Atlantic Hockey champion Air Force in the first round. East Regional host Yale is the second seed, and will draw Vermont.

The East and West regionals play opening round games Friday, and regional finals Saturday. Northeast and Midwest regional games are Saturday and Sunday. Winners advance to the NCAA Men's Frozen Four April 9-11 at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Move over, 'Twilight' hunks! 'The Lost Boys' are coming back!

Vampire hunter Corey Feldman is back! “The Lost Boys” are returning, and they're gonna be real thirsty for fresh blood.

An original cast member of the 1987 "Twilight" precursor, Feldman will produce and star, with his hapless character Edgar Frog getting –- surprise -– a much more central role.

Evan Charmov will write the script for Warner Premiere’s “The Lost Boys 3” a direct-to-disc sequel to 2008’s direct-to-DVD “Lost Boys: The Tribe.”

No word on whether the other original Corey -- Corey Haim -- will have a part in the film. Which is kinda sad. Maybe he’ll get his act together.

But "highly unlikely” is the phrase that Bloody-Disgusting.com used when it broke the news.

OMG, they totally gotta pull Kiefer Sutherland out of “24” for a cameo!

And how about still car-window-steamy Jason Patric, as an older vampire who has learned to control his feeding habits and hunts only animals now?

Oh wait, that's too :Twilighty" familiar.

Maybe he can drink a concoction called "True Blood"? Nope, that's been done by HBO.

Well, we hope they come up with some to raise these devilish dudes from the dead. Rent the original on Netflix and see just how hot they were.

Obama’s Teleprompter Blog Blogspot!

Barack Obama’s Teleprompter has its own blog on blogspot! Yes Obama’s teleprompter on blogspot is blogging away.

In fact the teleprompter has a lot to say about everything from TARP to Rush. But the telepromoter uses language, perhaps fit for an IT department, but a bit not presidential, so much so it’s even edited below.

Calling people “bafoon” is not beyond the slightly peeved teleprompter.

Says the teleprompter this week:

I don’t think I’m breaking any confidences here by saying that things are a bit tense around here. Ever since the White House announced that Big Boy was going to do another prime time presser next week, people have been waiting for the backlash. Sure, we could’ve done it during the day, but then we wouldn’t get any attention. We couldn’t do it on Thursday night, because that would cut into our watching the NCAA tourney. So instead we cut into “American Idol.” If you ask me that s–cks … me needs what only Ryan Seacrest can bring.

What really blows is that there are some folks in this place who are pushing for Barack to go out there alone. Sans me. With no wing screens.

Are they insane? With this rabid press corps constantly looking to pin Him down for every friggin detail about obscure legislation like the TARP funding? Or the economic stimulus bill? All that kind of detail can’t be fit on little note cards. Or even 5×7s. Sure, He rehearses, but nothing can compare him for those white, hot interrogation-room-style kleig lights, or those razor-sharp questions from the likes of Ed Schultz and that bag lady in the front row. Believe me, this is going to be a knock down, drag out fight worth monitoring over the weekend.

Walmart Gang Initiation False!

Police confirm crazy reports of Walmart Gang Initiations are false. Walmart Gang Initiation reports have been dispelled as false by police this week in three states.

In Valdosta, Georgia, authorities are ruling the reports as “not credible“.

Broward County and Palm Beach County, Florida officials want the public to know they are also false.

“According to some sources, it appears to be a rumor which began in 2005 from the Memphis, Tenn., area which over the course of the past two nights has become more widespread throughout Florida”.

Alabama press is telling citizens the same. Times-Journal of Selma, Alabama reports escalating false rumors there too.

Jim Leljedal, spokesman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office:
“No, no, no. These hoaxes and urban legends have been around forever. Now with the Internet they seem to travel with lightning speed.”

Madoff Is Guilty in Ponzi Scheme; Ordered to Jail

Bernard Madoff was jailed after admitting he masterminded the largest Ponzi scheme in history, an epic swindle that may have reached $65 billion and made him the symbol of investor distrust in a global recession.

Madoff, 70, entered his guilty plea in Manhattan federal court three months after confessing to relatives that his firm, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, was “one big lie.” U.S. District Judge Denny Chin ordered that Madoff, who has been free on $10 million bond, should be jailed while awaiting sentencing, scheduled for June 16. He faces as much as 150 years in prison.

“I never invested the funds in securities as promised,” Madoff told Chin at a hearing today in a courtroom packed with victims and members of the media. He said he was “deeply sorry” and knew what he did was criminal.

Madoff told Chin that in the early 1990s, when the U.S. was in a recession, he felt “compelled’” to provide the returns he promised investors. He said when the Securities and Exchange Commission asked about it, he lied to the SEC.

Madoff’s guilty plea -- he repeated the word 11 times this morning -- marks the downfall of a once-acclaimed money manager who told the world his fortune came through an eponymous firm that specialized in making markets, trading securities and advising wealthy clients.

Client Roster

Over three decades, he built a reputation as a brilliant stock picker who delivered steady returns through both bull and bear markets, attracting an international client roster that included celebrities like filmmaker Steven Spielberg, fund managers like J. Ezra Merkin, charities, universities, friends, and even royalty.

Some of the thousands of his investors lost their life savings. Thierry Magon de La Villehuchet, chief executive officer of Access International Advisors, which managed $3 billion, was driven to suicide because of his firm’s Madoff- related losses, his brother, Bertrand Magon de la Villehuchet, said in January.

The scandal has cast scrutiny on the Securities and Exchange Commission, whose chief, Mary Schapiro, pledged to beef up staff and expedite enforcement cases. Harry Markopolos, a former money manager, told Congress that he tried to persuade the agency for nine years that Madoff was a fraud, and that most agency officials he dealt with suffered from “investigative ineptitude.”

No Deal

The case doesn’t end with Madoff’s plea. Investigators have seized control of his offices at the lipstick-shaped building at 885 Third Avenue in Manhattan, where Madoff Securities operated out of three floors. Prosecutors say his subordinates helped him swindle investors. A central issue for investigators is whether employees knew of the fraud. No one else has been charged.

Madoff didn’t sign a plea deal that would have granted him leniency or other consideration in exchange for cooperation with the government. He was forced to plead guilty to all 11 counts against him because he refused to admit to a conspiracy, a charge that would have required him to disclose co- conspirators, according to people familiar with the case.

Prosecutors are hunting for Madoff’s assets, as they seek forfeiture of the $170 billion they said moved through Madoff Securities since the fraud began in the 1980s. The firm’s bankruptcy trustee has found about $1 billion in cash and securities.

4,800 Investors

Madoff told 4,800 investors in November that their accounts held $64.8 billion, though their holdings were a “small fraction” of that, prosecutors said in court papers. Defense attorney Ira Sorkin said it’s unclear how much investors lost.

Madoff pleaded guilty to securities fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, investment adviser fraud, three counts of money laundering, false statements, perjury, false filings with the SEC and theft from an employee benefit plan.

His scheme unraveled in early December amid a rush of investor redemptions, the government said. He told his sons Mark, who ran Madoff’s proprietary trading business, and Andrew, who was a director of the unit, that he wanted to pay bonuses two months earlier than usual, according to prosecutors.

There was “absolutely nothing,” and the business was “all just one big lie,” Madoff told his relatives, according to an affidavit filed in court on Dec. 11 by Federal Bureau of Investigation Agent Theodore Cacioppi.

Arrest

The sons turned their father in to federal authorities, according to their lawyer, Martin Flumenbaum. Neither is accused of any wrongdoing.

Madoff was arrested Dec. 11 and charged with one count of securities fraud for using billions of dollars from new investors to pay off old ones at his firm. Dogged by news cameras as he traveled to and from court, Madoff was allowed to remain free on $10 million bail and ordered to remain in his multimillion dollar apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, under electronic and video surveillance and watched over by security guards.

The scheme centered on Madoff’s claim to investors that he used a “split-strike conversion strategy” in which he promised to invest in stocks that mimicked the price movement of the Standard & Poor’s 100 Index, while “opportunistically” timing purchases, Acting Manhattan U.S. Attorney Lev Dassin said.

Madoff promised some investors returns of up to 46 percent and “created a broad infrastructure” to give the appearance of “a legitimate investment advisory business,” prosecutors said in court papers. His back-office staff had little or no experience and at Madoff’s direction misled clients about investments, the government said.

Manhattan Apartment

Madoff is being sent first to the 12-story Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan, federal marshals said. Later he may be assigned to one of several U.S. facilities in the New York area, including the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York.

Madoff is joining a corps of aging white-collar convicts including former WorldCom Inc. Chief Executive Officer Bernard Ebbers, 67, now housed at the Federal Correctional Institution in Oakdale, Louisiana, and John Rigas, 84, the ex-CEO of Adelphia Communications Corp. who is imprisoned at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina.

Last week, a different judge said in court papers in a related lawsuit by the SEC that Madoff’s lawyers claim that Madoff’s wife, Ruth, is the sole owner of the couple’s Manhattan apartment, $45 million in bonds and $17 million in cash. These assets are “unrelated” to Bernard Madoff’s alleged fraud scheme, his attorneys said, according to the judge.

It may ultimately be left to Chin to decide whether Ruth Madoff may keep the assets. She hasn’t been charged with a crime.

The criminal case is U.S. v. Madoff, 09-cr-00213, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York (Manhattan).

Miss CA Nicole Lamarche Wins Hearts As Pastor

This extraordinary and inspiring story about Pastor Nicole Lamarch should actually start by adding the word "former" when it comes to Miss. CA. Lamarche now wins parishioners' hearts and leads them as their pastor.

The story, published in today's The Boston Globe about pastor Nicole Lamarche has become an internet hit because of the very interesting passage of past and presence. Titles as From swimsuit competition glamour to parish pulpit clamor the author writes "the path from beauty-pageant winner to pastor has not always been smooth. Lamarche grew up going to church near her hometown of Chattaroy, Wash., and joined a campus ministry group when she started college at the University of Arizona. An international relations major, she planned to join the foreign service after graduation."

Nicole Lamarche has been a won the title of Miss San Francisco Pageant in 2003 then Miss California. She finished 5th in the Miss America Pageant in 2003 as California's representative. Now she is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ.

Nicole Lamarche used the scholarship money that she one to earn an MA in theology from the Graduate Theological Union and a Master of Divinity from the Pacific School of Religion. She is currently the pastor of the Cotuit Federated Church located on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. She married Jeremy Nickel on August 8th, 2008 in San Francisco, CA.

Consier the level of humbleness of this pastor. Despite being so beautiful and winning numerous city, state and national beauty contests we could not find a single photo of pastor Nicole Lamarce on the church website where she leads the congregation in worship and praise.

Instead we enjoyed pastor Lamarche's latest message to her congregation, published in the latest Parish Newspaper (PDF). Pastor Nicole Lamarche writes about Lent.

Dear Friends,

I will be the first to admit that I am not great at changing old habits. I like things the way they are and I like my routine.
So, maybe that is exactly why the sea-son of Lent invites us to wander a while in the desert. Just when we are getting back into the groove, our liturgical year invites us to pause. Some Christians use Lent as a time to give something up. These Lenten sacrifices usually include things like chocolate, alcohol, or complaining.

But Lent could be just as much about letting go of those things that could block us from God as it is welcoming those things that bring us closer to God. If Jesus wandered for forty days, why don’t we wander with him? What if we used Lent as a time to get some things right with God? What if our con-gregation added some holy habits in an effort to grow in faith and love?

Each Sunday in Lent, we will explore a holy habit, and each week you will have opportunities to use this new habit alongside your CFC family. Come to worship and see what these could be! Whatever you do, I pray that this holy time will bring you closer to our God.
Your Pastor,
Nicole

Clock store owners get in sync with daylight savings

Although millions of Americans turned their clocks ahead this morning, Steve Collins started resetting his clocks Saturday afternoon.

That’s because he had dozens of them to reset.

“It’ll take four or five hours,” said Collins, as he stood among the many clocks at the Roseburg-based store, “I Love Clocks.”

Collins and his wife, Camille, own the Garden Valley Shopping Center store. Their springer spaniel, Woody, also is a fixture at the store.

High school sweethearts from their days at Roseburg High, Steve and Camille took over the store six years ago.

But although working in a clock store on the day before clocks spring ahead may seem an arduous task, preparing for the change is not quite as time-consuming, nor as simple, as you might think, Steve said.

As he spoke, chimes, songs and cuckoos rang out intermittently from the hundreds of clocks that lined the walls, shelves and floors of the store.

Chimes resonated from about a half-dozen grandfather clocks. Miniature lederhosen-clad villagers twirled on the front of cuckoo clocks. And wall and mantel clocks emitted melodies that ranged from “I Did it My Way” to “A Whiter Shade of Pale.”

Now and again, a small sheep shot out and bleated from a novelty wall clock.

Not all the clocks are set to the real time, Steve explained, “so chaos doesn’t happen all at once.”

Some of the clocks are set a bit before the real time and a bit after the real time. “Over a 10-minute period, at the top of the hour, there’s always something going on,” he said.

Other clocks are set to random times. That way clocks sound throughout the day, intermittently piquing customers’ interest.

One wall is lined with large clocks called “music and motion” clocks. They play songs that range from pop to classical to country. As the music plays, the clock face spreads open like a blossoming flower, revealing intricate moving parts behind the face that whirl as the music plays.

Those intentionally aren’t all set to the same time, Camille said, or “it would be like playing 10 different record players at once.”

And although the majority of the store’s clocks are running, some sit battery-less and silent. Others, like three-foot-across wall clocks, are made mute.

Later that afternoon, Collins planned to start moving the hands forward on dozens of the clocks, at least on all those set at or close to the real time.

On those that chime or sing, he’ll have to pause and “let it do what it’s designed to do” before he moves the hands further forward.

A few of the clocks, so-called atomic clocks, will do his job for him. The clocks receive radio signals every two minutes from the official government clock at Fort Collins, Colo., Steve said.

“If you were watching that, the hands would go an hour forward at 2 in the morning,” he said, pointing to an atomic clock Saturday afternoon.

Changing his clocks to keep them in sync with daylight savings or standard time “takes me some extra time,” Steve said. “But it’s only twice a year.”

And sometimes, the inconvenience pays off in the long run.

“I get an increase in clock repair around that time,” he said. “People mess with their clocks and mess them up when they change the time.”

Dominican Republic stunned by Netherlands

The Dominican Republic sure could have used Alex Rodriguez, don't you think?

Without A-Rod, the Dominican Republic suffered a most stunning loss in the World Baseball Classic opener, losing 3-2 to the Netherlands.

This is a double elimination tournament, so the Dominican Republic still can advance to the second round by winning the rest of its games here at Hiram Bithorn Stadium. But this embarrassing opening loss serves as a mighty blow to a squad that many considered favorites to win the championship.

Netherlands scored its runs all in the first inning by capitalizing on errors by catcher Miguel Olivo and Hanley Ramirez and a wild pitch by starting pitcher Edinson Volquez. Then the Netherlands pitchers, beginning with starter Sidney Ponson, held the Dominican Republic's talented lineup at bay all game.

The Dominican Republic lineup -- filled with All-Stars such as David Ortiz, Robinson Cano, Hanley Ramirez and Miguel Tejada -- was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities nearly every inning. They left a total of nine runners on base.

Their biggest disappointment came in the fifth inning. After Miguel Tejada hit solo homer in the fourth, the Dominican team loaded the bases with no out in the fifth and looked as if it would take control of the game. Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly cut the deficit to one run, and Netherlands responded by intentionally walking David Ortiz to set up an inning-ending double play.

Netherlands reliever Rob Cordemans, who just entered the game, got Tejada to ground sharply to third baseman Yurendell DeCaster, and he stepped on third and threw to first. It was not only an inning-ending double play, it was a rally-ending double play, one in which the Dominicans never seemed to recover.

The Dominicans put the tying run on in the ninth, as speedy leadoff hitter Willy Taveras walked. He took second when Cano grounded out to second, but was caught trying to steal third with Ramirez up -- a questionable decision considering he would have scored from second on just about any hit.

Netherlands closer Leon Boyd then walked Ramirez, but struck out Jose Bautista -- who had pinch ran for Ortiz in the seventh inning -- to finish off the upset.

On Tonight: Siegfried & Roy's Return

In their resplendent outfits, German accents and waving hair, Siegfried & Roy were arguably the world's most famous animal act. They were ranked among the Top 10 highest entertainers and were among the most in-demand acts on the Vegas strip.

But it all ended in one minute during a show on Oct. 3, 2003 when a seven year old white male tiger named Mantecore Montecore lunged at Roy Horn's neck.
that Siegfried & Roy, the most famous lion traners and at the time in the Top 10 highest paid entertainers suddenly came to an end when a tiger named Montecore lunged at Roy Horn's neck.

Horn survived and surprisingly, so did Montecore (the animal trainers insisted he not be destroyed), Siegfried Fishbacher, for his part, suffered from caretakers syndrome for helping nurse Horn back to health. Neither are back to 100 percent, but they agreed to appear in public last weekend for charity.

And there with Siegfried, 69, and Roy, 64 was Montecore, in the cage with them.
Everything turned out all right, or we wouldn't be watching the special edition of "20/20" tonight called "Siegfried & Roy: The Magic Returns" (ABC, 9 p.m.).

Elizabeth Vargas will report on their performance at the Bellagio Hotel, where the duo once performed for a 13-year run. It will benefit the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health set to open in Las Vegas in a building designed by Frank Gehry.

It's followed by a regular edition of "20/20" (ABC, 10 p.m.) about the perils of work-at-home opportunities.

Jessie Logan Nude Photos in 'Sexting' Claims Life: A Mother's Story

You may have heard of 'sexting' in recent months, a process in which teens send nude photos of themselves to their boyfriends or girlfriends through text messages, but have you heard Jessie Logan's story?

Some teens may continue to participate in 'sexting', despite the strong opposition from their parents and school leaders, but perhaps one mother's story will change their minds.

Cynthia Logan's daughter Jessie Logan was 18 years old and about to graduate from Sycamore High School when her 'sexting' turned into a nightmare.

Jessie had sent a nude photo of herself to her boyfriend's cell phone - a picture that was later sent to hundreds of students in several schools in the Tri-state area. Jessie was devastated.

Back in May of 2008, Jessie made appearances on news channels discussing her experience from 'sexting' and how just one sent photo turned into their worst nightmare. She was teased, harassed, mocked and tortured incessantly over her picture by kids near her home, school and elsewhere. Kids threw objects at her and called her horrible names.

She cried during an interview: "I still get harassed and stuff."

"I just want to make sure no one else will have to go through this same thing."

Jessie's life spiraled out of control the moment that picture was sent - her grades suffered tremendously. She was being abused by her peers and started cutting class to avoid the cruelty of other students.

Cynthia knew her daughter was struggling to cope with the abuse, but she had no idea just how devastated her daughter had become. Not even a year after the message that started it all was sent, Jessie was dead. She had committed suicide.

Her mother describes the moment: "And I walked over into her room and saw her hanging. Her cell phone was in the middle of the floor."

Jessie had hung herself in her closet.

Explosion destroys businesses in Bozeman, Montana

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — An explosion in downtown Bozeman, Mont., has collapsed three buildings and prompted the evacuation of a two-block area.

Authorities say they don't know whether anyone was hurt in Thursday morning's blast. But a spokeswoman for the main medical facility in the city of about 38,000 says no victims of the explosion had been admitted there.

KBZK-TV says a restaurant and bar was destroyed and another bar was heavily damaged.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle says officials were investigating the possibility that a natural gas leak caused the explosion.

Crews were working to extinguish a fire caused by the blast.

D.C.'s Vivek Kundra named federal CIO

President Barack Obama today appointed D.C.’s Chief Technology Officer Vivek Kundra to the new administrative position of federal chief information officer.

As the nation’s CIO, Kundra will direct the policy and strategic planning of federal information technology investments.

Lowering the cost of government operations through the use of technology, interoperability of technology across government agencies, and security are other major objectives.

“Vivek Kundra will bring a depth of experience in the technology arena and a commitment to lowering the cost of government operations to this position,” Obama said in a statement.

“As chief information officer, he will play a key role in making sure our government is running in the most secure, open, and efficient way possible.”

Kundra will work with Obama’s yet-to-be-named chief technology officer to promote the president’s technology agenda.

Kundra was rumored to be in the running for several tech-related positions that Obama promised to create, including the chief technology officer position for which newly tapped Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski also was said to be considered.

In D.C., Kundra was responsible for the city’s telecommunications and IT infrastructure. He was appointed the city’s CTO on March 27, 2007, by Mayor Adrian Fenty and has implemented technology-based programs to streamline government procurement and make citywide data more transparent and accessible to citizens.

Before serving in the District, Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine named him assistant secretary of commerce and technology, the first dual cabinet role in the state’s history.

In the private sector, Kundra was vice president of marketing for Evincible Software, a company focused on electronic signatures and identity management for the financial services and defense sectors, and as chief executive officer of Creostar he advised government and industry clients on IT governance and strategy.

Cowboys cut Terrell Owens

Terrell Owens' days in Dallas are over after all.

ESPN and Fox Sports are among several outlets reporting that the Cowboys have cut Owens, who averaged 1,196 receiving yards in three seasons with the team. The Cowboys had yet to confirm the move as of 2 a.m. ET Thursday morning.

Owens' divisive effect inside the Cowboys locker room may have prompted Owens' dismissal. In December, the Cowboys had several off-field dramas as a fissure developed between Owens and QB Tony Romo.

Owens at several points during the season publicly asked for a bigger role in the offense.

"You know what he brings as far as personality and the good and bad of it all," ESPN analyst and Hall of Famer Steve Young said on the network Wednesday night. "The Cowboys seemed to have found a dance step to at least survive it.

"It's still semi-surprising that they'd actually pull the trigger."

Cowboys owner and GM Jerry Jones had been non-committal on Owens' future until this point in the offseason. Asked last week if it was his intention to keep Owens, Jones told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "You got my drift. And that's all I want to say about that."

The Dallas Morning News, which also reported Owens' dismissal, said the team will take a $9 million salary cap hit. Owens signed a three-year contract extension last summer.

Owens' dismissal puts two of the top six all-time leaders in receptions, with Marvin Harrison, on the market this offseason. Owens' 951 receptions rank sixth and Harrison's 1,102 are second.

Harrison was cut by the Colts last month.

Where Owens will play next is uncertain, but Young said it would have to be a confident, mature team that could handle his temperamental personality.

Said fellow ESPN analyst and former Cowboys receiver Keyshawn Johnson, "He probably has 3-4 years left in him."

Notorious C.H.O.

Comedian Margaret Cho has spent her career defying social norms and stereotypes, and has become a political icon in the process, writes Garrett Bithell.

“A couple of days before Mardi Gras there was a big drug bust in Australia. And I was like ‘oh no, that’s a hate crime’! Making all those gays stay up all night with no drugs.”

And there we go – another perfect Margaret Cho one-liner. She is, of course, talking about last year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. She was in Sydney debuting her new one-woman show, Beautiful, and was also given the coveted role of ‘Chief of Parade’, along with locals Shane Brennan and Craig Gee, victims of a brutal gay bashing on Oxford Street just two months before.

“It was wonderful,” Cho tells SX. “It was the biggest gay pride event I’ve ever seen in my life – which is saying a lot because I’ve been to a lot of them!

There has always been a healthy dose of politics in Cho’s material. In 2004, she took her politically-charged State of Emergency on the road ahead of the US presidential election. She has also received the First Amendment Award from the ACLU of California and has been honoured by a number of GLBT organisations, including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

This month Cho releases a DVD of her popular reality-sitcom, The Cho Show, which follows her, her real parents, and her eccentric entourage through a series of utterly outrageous experiences – all shaped by her ‘anything goes’ brand of stand-up. It is this irreverence that has landed her in hot water many times before – but she couldn’t care less.

“I think when the world was more conservative after 9/11, it was really difficult to criticise the government,” she muses. “So those types of things got me in a lot of trouble. But I have a pretty thick skin.

“I think if you grow up and you’re called racial slurs and ‘fag’ and ‘queer’ and ‘homo’ and ‘dyke’ ... you just don’t even hear them anymore and certainly don’t care. So yeah, I get a lot of that and I don’t care.”

The Cho Sho Season 1 DVD is out now through Beyond Home Entertainment.

The Tonight Show With Jay Leno 11:35 p.m., Channel 7

If you saw the last Kennedy Center Honors, you have to remember Bettye LaVette. She blew the house away with her version of the Who's "Love, Reign O'er Me." She's a powerhouse of a soul singer who means every single thing she sings, and she is one of the few people who can actually make me look forward to watching Leno. Also on tonight: Bob Newhart and Rachel Maddow.

America 9 p.m., Lifetime

This social-issue drama follows a 17-year-old foster kid named America, who is about to age out of the system. Rosie O'Donnell, who co-wrote and produced, does a decent job playing the tough-loving therapist, but the movie belongs to newcomer Philip Johnson as America. Without sentimentality, he makes this numbed-out, mistreated kid into a hero. Ruby Dee is also in the cast, as his foster mother.

Nip/Tuck 10 p.m., FX

Tonight, Liz and Christian's wedding. Toaster oven: revoked.

Estate of Panic 10 p.m., Sci Fi

Formerly d/b/a "The Fourth Estate."

Thelma & Louise 8 p.m., AMC

Birds fly. Thunderbirds don't.

The Andy Griffith Show 9 p.m., TV Land

Which rivalry needs to be re-energized? Florida State-Miami

Attention, Florida State's Bobby Bowden and Miami's Randy Shannon. Time to stop dadgum messin' with the rivalry your schools built and now have botched. Enough of this regionally televised, can't-sell-out-the-joint games that carries less punch than UCF-USF.

We need top 10 teams. We need Cortez Kennedy and Russell Maryland trying to tackle Dexter Carter. How about Wide Right IV (or V, depending on the counter)? Just bring back what used to be the most enjoyable annual game in all college football.

We remember the good ol' days, when Oklahoma's Barry Switzer and Nebraska's Tom Osborne option-pitched the nation's best rivalry to the Sunshine State. And from 1987-1993, the Seminoles and Hurricanes clashed every fall when each team was ranked in the Top 10. The series delivered incredible memories -- Michael Irvin vs. Deion Sanders, Gerry Thomas and Dan Mowrey missing kicks, and a parade of forgettable quarterbacks (I'll see your Craig Erickson and raise you a Danny McManus). UM and FSU combined for three outright national titles in those seven years, with the 'Canes sharing a fourth.

Those numbers made each year's rivalry renewal into a festival, something no Cocktail Party or Red River Shootout or even Bo Schembechler could trump. Florida State-Miami had Keith Jackson in the booth and the nation paying heed and a buzz unmatched by any college football day save Jan. 1.

Things have changed, of course. Ever since Willis McGahee's knee shredded at Sun Devil Stadium six years ago, both programs have plunged to Michigan State-dom. "Da U" has made more headline for tumult and tragedy than triumph. And Bowden's biggest contribution the last five seasons has been serving as chief spokesman for Tim Tebow Heisman Trophy campaigns.

As for your head-to-head matchups? The best thing to emerge from those was a few photos of Jenn Sterger.

These days, it's far more fun to watch Miami and Florida State recruit than watching Miami and Florida State play. The matchups might stay close until the final seconds, but no thanks to outstanding play on both sides of the ball. Take last year's 41-39 duel -- with seven turnovers, and UM's inability to corral FSU's backs, the game resembled a junior varsity meeting of the programs from a generation ago.

Somehow, the television networks believe in this series. ESPN will give the 'Noles and 'Canes another crack at the primetime slot on Labor Day night, an amateur version of Monday Night Football. The programs might be focused on beating Virginia Tech and Florida, worried about the ACC and the BCS. But we'll narrow the target for them -- concentrate on making the head-to-head series the nation's best again, and those other opponents will grow far less formidable.

We want this rivalry to matter again. We want our Miami-FSU in the penthouse again.
